Introducing Dimakatso Mohata

May 27, 2024

Introducing Dimakatso Mohata, the Inaugural Recipient of The Steve Cockeram Memorial Bursary, sponsored by Airvantage

“I would like to convey my heartfelt appreciation for the chance offered by Airvantage that helped me to release my ambition of becoming a developer. Thanks to the financing, I was able to finish my BSc in Information Technology with distinction in record time and am now a proud graduate and junior developer at Airvantage.

Throughout my academic journey, I received not just financial help, but guidance from my mentors, Tshediso Radebe and Lizani Botha, as well as two weeks of IT industry experience each year. This provided me with the opportunity to realise my full potential and achieve 26 distinctions out of 30 modules.

As of January 2024, I began my internship at Airvantage, and I am learning a lot about how airtime and data advances (lending), as well as the systems and processes required to achieve these. I'm not only learning, but I've also met fantastic individuals who are eager to assist and guide me on my path while fostering a good work environment. Looking forward to gaining more experience and developing more professional relationships.”  Dimakatso Mohata, Junior Developer, Airvantage.

The Steve Cockeram Bursary
“The inspiration for this bursary program came from a desire to honour the memory and legacy of a cherished Airvantage team member, Steve Cockeram, who passed away in 2021. Steve was a cornerstone of our development team for four years. After his untimely passing, we wanted to celebrate his contributions and spirit by establishing a bursary in his name, specifically aimed at supporting women in the ICT sector. It is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one person can have on many lives.”  Dr Liam Terblanche, Chief Technology Officer, Airvantage.
